Peru
Farm: Selvanica Community FarmsProject: Project S.H.A.D.E.
In many parts of Peru, the rain forest is cut down to make
room for agricultural production. This has exerted a devastating effect
on
wildlife habitat – especially bird populations which are suffering
significant species losses annually. To stem the destruction of the
bird’s habitat, Portland Roasting is working with Jungle Tech to
make Trees for Coffee: High Amazon Bird Friendly Coffee Reforestation
Project a reality. Portland Roasting donates money to farmers to
plant three sapling trees for every 150 pounds of coffee purchased. The
goal of the program is to plant 5,000 native trees in the farmland where
the coffee is harvested.
This program helps
us reach Millennium Development Goal number 7, to ensure environmental
sustainability. Please visit Tress for
the Future to find out about other planting projects and how you can
help.
