We buy small amounts of Robusta beans from Karnataka Coffee Estates to use in our blends. We donated funds to the Opportunity School to provide work skills training for the students. The school also requested that Portland Roasting Company send a popcorn machine, something we happened to have in stock – not only do the kids love popcorn but they also want to use the machine to generate income. We are working with a shipping company to get the large machine sent out to the school.

We are also assisting the growers in developing a pulp-natural process which eliminates a lot of the water used in processing beans. We also assist in taste analyses so we can find an eco-conscious method of processing that doesn’t sacrifice flavor.

This program helps us reach Millennium Development Goal number two, achieve universal primary education.
