Carbon Neutral Audit Results

February 27, 2008

A few months ago, we teamed up with Trees for the Future, a non-profit organization, to set up a reforestation project aiming to offset our carbon emissions. One additional goal of this project was to help combat deforestation in El Salvador. The first step of this process was to assess the quantity of carbon emissions that our operation was causing. We had to account for annual electricity used, annual fossil fuel consumption, annual cargo transportation and employees commuting distances. After gathering detailed information about our energy consumption few weeks ago, we received the results from an external audit that I would like to share with all of our readers.

The results showed that we needed to plant at least 17000 trees in order to offset our carbon footprint. We already sponsored one reforestation project in Haiti with 5000 trees planted, and in addition we are committed to planting 15000 more trees in El Salvador in cooperation with a coffee co-op named Ucraprobex.

We are glad to announce that we are able to contribute in a positive way to offsetting our carbon emissions with these reforestation projects.
