June 05, 2008

By Juan Elías Fallas Valenciano and Norvin Sequeira Duarte

On Friday May 23rd, elections took place at our school La Hilda for the 2008 school presidency. The results of the elections were published on May 30th. On Thursday May 29th after praying the “Rosario” we were informed about the outcome of the school election. Six different parties were running for the school presidency but just one was the winner called No Drug Consumption. Her president Martha Adilia Valerio Mairena, currently in fifth grade. The new elected president will take office on Thrusday June 12th. My schoolmate Victor Delgado Porras from sixth grade is the current president.

We support the new winner party because we believe on its program which aiming to avoid drug consumption. Now we must continue providing support in the implementation process of this program in order to achieve the goals.

La Hilda farm has a junior high soccer team. Last Saturday we played against a more mature team, we won 7 to 4. Afterward, we planned to play against another team but the heavy rainy season did not allow us to play that game.

On Saturday May 31th we played against an older team unfortunately we lost 7 to 6 because our players were all below 17 years old.

We would like to keep playing with team of our same age or at least as tall as we are. We are in need of a good coach especially to train our goal keeper who needs to improve his skills. We need to add more players as well as a new coach that would help us to improve our game as well as our confidence to play against physically bigger opponents.

On may Thursday 29th, we participated in communal prayer with our teacher of religion. It was a new experience, I enjoyed it and we all liked a lot because of the religious involvement. We sang one song called “Maria, la blanca paloma” “Maria, the white dove” this song was familiar to me. I am used to participate in religious acts because my family is Catholic. I like to pray the “Rosario”, usually we pray it with my family every night before going to bed.

In addition, I would like to share that we feel very fortunate to belong to a nice family and community. We usually share many things together such as helping each other, doing our homework and providing any necessary help keep clean our house. We also have time to watch some TV. There are many programs that we like a lot such as: Small Ville on Channel 7, some Chinese movies and some soap operas specially on channel 6 and 7.

Finally, I would like to say that we enjoy our live specially going out to ride my bike and playing soccer every afternoon after school classes.

Best Regards,
